I had problem and could not boot my system. I repaired the OS and it
still would not boot so I installed a second W2K on the hard drive. This
can up fine. Later with more work I got the origanal/repaired version to
boot and run. In the other version.load of W2K these devices are ok.
Although in Add/Remove hardware I get this error for the IDE channels.

For the two IDE channels I get -->
This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the
other devices on this system.

I do not not have any use of the CD-RW drive.
For the CD-RW I get -->
This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the
drivers required for the device.

Go into Device Manager and remove all related to IDE and IDE drives, reboot
but go into your BIOS and check that
the settting for "Plug and Play OS Installed " is set to "Yes" allow windows
to come up and see how you go
