I had exactly the same problem when I attached a new 120 gig Seagate.
Did the drive come with an installation CD or is there an installation
program you can download from the manufacturer's website? You may need to
run that. (At least that's what I did and it solved the problem.)
Right click on My Computer, select Manage. On the following screen, select
Disk Management. The new drive will appear on the right hand side of the
screen. Partition it, format it and assign it a drive letter.
