When I click Add Hardware option in Printers and Other Hardware screen, I get
an Info Box that says "Cannot run two device installations - You can only
install one device at a time. Another device installation is underway, when
it is finished you can try this wizard again." I do not have anyother
hardware installations going on - that I know of. I get this every time I
select the Add Hardware option. I think this is behind the problems I am
having getting the computer to recognize digital cameras.

Start | Run | hdwwiz.cpl <enter>
see if that works for you.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I got the same result when I opened the Add
Hardware wizard that way. It is like there is some installation running that
I cannot find.

What happens if you let the first one finish? Also look in Device
manager for any devices with a yellow ?.

I have the same darn problem. I removed all question mark devices in device
manager and I still get the same message

I also have the same problem.

It may have occurred when I was trying to install a USB wireless mouse.
However, there are no active applications showing in my windows task manager.

I also noticed that the windows system restore had been turned off and all
restore points have been deleted. Could this be some kind of "malware"?

How can I get it resolved? I'm reluctant to add anything new to the computer.

p.s. to my last note....

i have no yellow markers in my device manager folder to indicate problems
with attached hardware. everything looks Ok.

I have the same problem..... I have no splats in my Device Manager, in fact,
the Device Manager keeps flashing as if it is constantly repeatedly scanning
for updates. Does anybody have an idea as to the process name in Task Manager
that I can turn off to see this will fix my problem?

EDIT: I was able to fix the problem by unplugging my USB devices and then
plugging each one back in, one at a time, and waiting for the new hardware
wizard to finish installing the drivers before I plug in another USB
device... Everything is working now.
