Add external keyboard/mouse to Dell notebook running XP?

Hello,

I have a new Dell Inspiron 500m notebook running standalone with XP.
The built-in keyboard is not ideal so I'd like to add an external
keyboard/mouse. Is this possible? Via USB? Is it a simple
matter of plug and play - i.e. will adding the external keyboard/mouse
automatically disable the internal devices?

Yes it should be fine, just plug in the new mouse and
keyboard and Windows will automatically detect and
install the drivers, if you have to disable the built in
components you can do so in device manager
