In the Add Counters window, you will find a "Performance Objects" list. Where
exactly is that list stored?

You might try reading the documentation for whatever application you're
trying to use. Since you've chosen to key this crucial piece of
information a secret, no one here can help you.

You can open up the perfc009.dat and perfh009.dat files (eg in notepad /
wordpad) in C:\WINDOWS\system32, to see a list, if a little unreadable

Thanks Jon. My problem is that the list shrinks. For example, "memory"
disappears.

Does disabling any of the services effect the items in the list? If so,
which services?

I exchanged both perfc009.dat and perfh009.dat but that did not solve the
problem.

What can effect the listing of items, such as memory that is no longer in
the list?

Jon:

Please try this experiment:

Check in the Performance Objects list and see if there is "memory" and
"processsor". If so, disable the page file in the page file window then
shut-down your computer then boot then check the Performance Objects list for
"memory" and "processor".

Hi

Yes, the counters disappear with the "No Paging file" setting here too. Good
detective work.

Thanks for checking. Will Microsoft acknowledge that I have found a bug in
Wxp? Will Bill Gates send me a nice letter?

A French one, perhaps :)

Jon:

Who, besides yourself, at Microsoft will acknowledge that I found a bug?

I sent several emails to Microsoft about this bug but never got a reply. Now
what should I do?
