AD Installation - utilities don't run

D

David Last

I've just put active directory onto a new Windows 2000
server installation. There are no other domains around -
this is the first server of a new situation.

The Windows 2000 server has nothing on it except 2000 and
all the updates from Microsoft.

I've configured the DNS and it appears to work correctly.
The active directory installation goes through without
reporting any errors. After reboot I can login as the
administrator fine.

However, when I run "Active Directory Users and Computers"
nothing happens. When I run "Active Directory Sites and
Services" nothing happens. When I run "Active Directory
Domains and Trusts" the management console comes up with
my new domain. But when I choose manage on my new domain,
nothing happens. When I choose properties a box comes up
but if I choose the Trusts or try to allocate a manager,
the box and the console close themselves down.

What have I done wrong?

TIA

David this seems to be a DNS related problem as the common of troubles with
Active Directory. Ensure the TCP/IP DNS Settings on the server are correct
and pointing to the server it self if the same server running the AD
integrated dns zone for your ad domain. You should be available to resolve
the FQDN of the domain name and the server name ex: HQ-DC-01.mydomain.com.
This have to work on all clients, Active Directory are depended on DNS.
