Ad hoc won't share internet

I have a laptop and when I bought my iPod, I was able to make an ad hoc
connection and access the internet through it. I have been unable to do so
since that first day. When I set up an ad hoc connection, in the last window
where it says it is working, the option to share internet is not there. I
have shut off my firewall, I have gone into everything I can think of and
enabled internet sharing but it still doesn't work. My iPod sees the
connection (which I have as an unsecured connection) but is "unable to join"
as it cannot connect to the internet via that connection. It works just fine
everywhere else. Had it not worked the first time I tried it, I would have
thought it wouldn't work at all, but it did and now it won't! Any
suggestions?

Ad-hoc wireless and the Windows O/S of any flavor old and new is flakey to
say the least about it when it comes to Internet Connection Sharing.
