Hello,

I've been trying to get an Ad Hoc connection running between my 2
laptops (both have wireless adapters).

The network works perfectly when I disable the WEP encryption ,however
once I enable it, nothing works the way it should, cant access the
shared folders, nor the internet.

I also tried pinging the IP addressn of one laptop from another , it
says the host is unreachable, though the icon shows the network as
being connected.

I've read many posts regarding this mater here, even checked that
tutorial @ microsofts website and still no luck.

any help is appreciated,

thanks,

Hi
Some Wireless Cards (especially from few ears ago) have problems Working
Ad-Hoc with encryption.
The solution is New Cards, or much better Of, a configuration around Access
Point (Wireless Router).
Jack (MVP-Networking).

thanks for you reply,

one of the laptops has a Linksys adaptar which was bought last August,
and the other laptop has a built in adapter.

In fact I do have a wireless router, but when I'm away an Ad Hoc
connection comes in handy, thats why ive been trying to get this going,
like i said without encryption works perfectly, with encryption (thu it
shows the connected status) is pretty much useless.

Does encryption work when you're using the router?

Also, make sure you're using the same encryption key/passphrase on both
computers.
