Ad-aware Update 01R245 [03.01.2004]

Scott Vallery

I cannot get this update to be recognized by my Ad-Ware. I used the webupdate and it says there is none available. I downloaded manually, but I can't get it to work either.

For those of you running Lavasoft's Ad-aware, use the integrated
update function to obtain the latest reference file.

You most likely have the old build of Ad-aware, which does not support the new
Reference Files.
Please uninstall your old build via Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.

The new build (version 6.181)
http://ftp.pcworld.com/pub/new/privacy___security/aaw6.exe
(If the download does not work, for whatever reason, go to
http://www.lavasoftusa.com for additional download links).

They are both called 6.0 , but like you have stated the new built version
will only except the new update. Good tip. Jym

Scott;
Ad-Aware is updated about once a week.
You should be updating Ad-Aware weekly just like your antivirus
application.

Who told you about ftp.pcworld.com ? If you connect via ws_ftp,
there's nothing there.

The URL links to an http FTP server at PC World, I doubt it is accessible
via WS_FTP.

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_download/0,fid,7423,fileidx,1,00.asp
(If the download does not start, there's a hyperlink on the page that links to the
FTP).

The FTP link, works for me,
http://ftp.pcworld.com/pub/new/privacy___security/aaw6.exe

Regards,

When I click that link (
http://ftp.pcworld.com/pub/new/privacy___security/aaw6.exe ) it takes me to
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/

If I change it to
ftp://ftp.pcworld.com/pub/new/privacy__security/aaw6.exe
I get a 404 error.

When I click that link (

Is this safe? When I click that I get the option to Open or Save
I tried Save and it just closed without doing anything. (?)
I selected Open and it does download but doesn't have an authenticode
signature. The file is still available in the TIF to be saved so I will save it
but I am not going to install it.

Under Properties:
Description: Ad-aware VI, data miners worst nightmare
Size: 1.67 MB (1,760,378 bytes)
