1.04.

Beware - it is giving some users problems - when checking the registry it
can hang. The author is investigating.

Difference is that it does not work, stops at 15,000 files and then stops.

What's the difference from 1.03?

I couldn't see a difference but it stops at 15,000 files and then stops.

I installed Ad-aware SE v1.04 here and it seems to be working well. My PC has
Win XP Pro with SP2 installed and v1.04 got to over 130,000 files and terminated
normally. Could SP2 be the difference?

I do have a minor problem with the uninstall process for Ad-aware SE. When I
installed v1.03 it left behind the Ad-aware 6 directory and
2 sub-directories - Logs, and
Quarantine, and
2 files - prefs.ini (dated 18/8/04) and
reflist.ref.old (dated 24/7/04).

I can understand not deleting the 2 sub-directories in case I wanted to keep the
old v6 logs and anything in quarantine but the 2 files puzzle me. I don't
think they are needed but would appreciate confirmation prior to dumping them
all in the bit bucket.

I also have a minor quibble about the quarantine. When I ran v1.04 it found 8
data miner/logger cookies which I selected to be quarantined. It asked for a
file name, which I supplied, and then it finished. After this process finished
I checked the quarantine and found 2 files - one was the automatic quarantine
file and the other was the one I nominated - both containing the 8 cookies.

Why ask for a name, and not proceed until it gets one, if it is creating an
automatic file anyway? This is not restricted to v1.04 as I have noticed this
happening with earlier versions as well.

Advice appreciated.

On which OS's does it stop? I am using Win98SE and it is working just
fine.
Next time, however, I won't update the version until I check this NG.

For some reason it's working fine for me. I use the Ad-aware SE Plus
1.04 version on Windows XP, Sp2. I wonder what the difference is
between the systems that it freezes on, and those where it works.

It checked over 160,000 files here without a problem on XP HE with SP2
installed and 3 others in another group I frequent have also used it
successfully, 2 of them with XP Pro and SP2.

1.04.

A new version (still 1.04) has been released. This has fixed the hang
problem I was getting.

Great! So we now have 2 x SE v1.04's in existence. How do we distinguish one
form the other?

The version I have reports as v1.04 with definitions file SE1R7 06.09.2004.

The one that works on your system is the one you keep :)

I must have downloaded the improved copy of Ad-Aware SE 1.04 because
I've run three scans with no problems.

I'll bet the problem is with the operator, not the version.
I've had no hassle with it, and I find it heaps quicker than the previous
versions.

There WAS a problem with version 1.04 which was quickly fixed (within hours)
and a new version 1.04 put out for download......so don't blame the
operator. You may have gotten the new and improved one.....
