Hi,

It's my understanding that ActiveX is MS's version of Java, and works in
IE, right? Since I use Firefox and Java, is there any reason why I
shouldn't delete any ActiveX stuff I find? My registry is loaded with
ActiveX crap.

TIA,

Chakolate

Actually no.....

Many website's uses ActiveX objects, including those designed for non-IE
browsers, as do many programs. Thus, deleting them from your registry is NOT
a good idea unless;

1. You know what you are deleting
2. You are COMPLETELY SURE you do not need it.

Sun and MS had different versions of Java. ActiveX is a whole different
thing.. It is needed by your sound card and video card. If you remove
it your computer is toast.

Just deactivate it so that it can't run through the Internet, and
it shouldn't cause any trouble. You need it for Windows Update, so
it isn't a good idea to try to delete it. In my humble opinion,
Active X should be reduced to cinders with napalm, and the ground
where it stood sown with salt. But we live in a Microsoft world.

Oh, I should have known it was too tempting to be a Good Thing. :-( Okay,
thanks for the input everybody. Now how do I deactivate it?
