ActiveX totally disabled, Java off, still got a spyware/virus thing - How

I'm pretty convinced that this happened from some kind of popup hack. It happened after all sorts of IE windows started popping up. I got a new toolbar added to my browser!! I read about something like this and it mentioned popups. Is there really a security hole in IE using popups allowing attackers to run code on my computer? I'm the only one using this computer and I run a tight ship, so it's not from me manually running an .exe I didn't know what it did. It's up-to-date with critical updates. What does that say for the hacks that I don't see a toolbar show up for? Sorta creepy..

Remove all the parasites in your computer.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware

and:

SpyBot-S&D

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.
