ActiveX Flash php Website

O

Only Me

I cannot seem to display a website correctly on my PC. I
use Windows XP Home with SP1 and all updates. I have tried
every suggestion I can think of with no solution.
If I visit;
" http:// www dot macromedia dot com / shockwave /
welcome "
The top portion is OK (Shockwave) but the bottom (Flash)
is not displayed.
Any ideas as I wish to play a game which is at;
"http:// www dot ....... ....... .php "
But it does not work.

Thanks in advance.

Neil :)

Download and install the free flash player from macromedia:

Thanks for the advice "Sharon F" but I have already tried this several times with no success.

I have gone to the download page, clicked on install flash, the page content "changes & reloads", but still does not install. I still get error boxes on my machine. Believe me I have tried loads of things but with no luck.

I use PC-Cillin 2003 for Anti-Virus & Firewall.

Any suggestions?????

Neil :)

The bottom window on the page that you referred to is using flash. Top
window uses shockwave. If you want the top window to display something as
well, install the free shockwave player in addition to the free flash
player.

PS: You need to restart the system to complete the installation of the
flash player. Have you done that yet?

Thanks again for your reply. I have tried re-starting my machine several times, but with no success. When I am on the welcome page, as you earlier described, the top component (shockwave) works fine, but the bottom component (Flash) refuses to load

I live in the UK and its 7:49 am on Thursday 5th Feb 2004, I am going away on vacation for 1 week as of tomorrow so I may not get chance to reply or try anything else out. When I return I SHALL be looking at this thread to see if any progress has been made. Thanks again for all your help Sharon
Bye for now
Neil.

Have a good vacation, Neil. When you get back take a look in
Windows\Downloaded Programs. Remove the Flash objects in there. Try the
download for the Flash Player again.

Thanks Sharon for the suggestion, I searched everywhere in the web again and came up with a working solution

I know the Windows Registry should be treated with the maximum care possible, but there appears to be a key which controls all this, it is
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\ {D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}
Name = Compatibility Flag
Type = REG_DWOR
Data = 0x00000400 (1024

The fix is when Data is changed to 0x00000000 (0) ALL is now OK
All websites now fully load OK

Many thanks again for your help, and I hope this may be of use to others

Best wishes

Neil :)

You're welcome, Neil. That's a pretty obscure fix - one value in the data
registry. I'm very glad that you found it. Thanks for posting back with
your results as well. Doing so may help someone else facing the same
problem.
