ActiveX component can't create object

This is the message I get when trying to import information
from an excel file containing business contacts(Office 2000
version if Access).

I tried restoring/repairing from the disk but it didn't help.
anybody have a solution?

Also tried to open up a new Access database using a
existing template - same message.

Starting to think that Access 2000 isn't compatable with XP
- everything worked great with win 98
