ActiveX component can't create object

I have office 2000 on my machine, and since I installed Project 2002, I keep
on getting the message "ActiveX compononet can't create object" every time I
try to import an excel spreadsheet into an access table.

I'm running windows XP pro, so I can't install MDAC, I tried running
"regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO\DAO360.DLL" but
that didn't work, and I have also tried to re install office but that hasn't
helped either

LeFish,

What's your access level on the system? Are you "Limited Account" or
"Computer Administrator"?

LeFish, Have you tried to run Microsoft Office Setup on Repair mode? Have
you also checked for a healthy reference to the Microsoft Office DAO Object
Library? Does the error still happen when importing into a brand new - empty
database?

Tried them both, and yes, it does occur when creating a new database. I think
this is something to do with having project 2002 on a machine with office
2000 on, as I have two machines with both peices of software on that are
expreiencing the same problem

LeFish, Try to change the Reference library from Microsoft Data Access
Objects version 3.0 library to DAO 3.6 library.

How do I do that?

Open a Module (or create one without saving it). Then on the Access system
menu go to Tools->Preferences. Uncheck "Microsoft Data Access Object 3.0
Library." Then search the list for "Microsoft Data Access Object 3.6
Library." If is not listed, try using the "Browse" button and look into the
folder C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DAO\ and select
DAO360.dll. Make sure this last library is checked. Only one DAO version
needs to be listed and checked.
