Activesync and Outlook 2003

Outlook does not connect to my e-mail server when my
pocket pc is in the crade an turned on. It also remains
active as a process along with Word even after I have
exited the program. Has anyone else seen this problem.

You'll need to uncradle to release the outlook.exe process. In general
cradling would be something you do after you start Outlook and uncradle it
before exiting Outlook.

Yes. I saw it all the time with Outlook 2000 running on Win 2K. I
have never heard a plausible answer to your exact same question about
Outlook staying in the process list after closing it. I hope some
very smart person will take pity on us and tell us how to cure that
problem. It's VERY irritating and causes the need for a reboot some
times. I am now running XP Pro (SP2) and Outlook 2002. Have not seen
the same problem yet (about 60 days).

Some common reasons why Outlook will not shut down completely when you click
either the X or Exit:

1. PDA synchronization software with your PDA in the cradle.
2. WinFax Pro (especially 10.02 in Outlook 2003) - contact their support
for an alleged fix.
3. Franklin-Cover Plan Plus!
4. COM Add-ins.
5. Mail reminder add-ins that keep a stub of Outlook open in the background
to check for new mail and fire reminders.
6. Anti-virus/firewall programs that are set to scan incoming and outgoing
mail.

Because as long as the PDA is cradled, Outlook must run in order to maintain
synchronization.

I hope some

In this particular case, uncradle the PDA.

It's VERY irritating and causes the need for a reboot some
times.

It's rare that a reboot would be needed. Start the Task Manager, click the
Processes tab, select the Outlook processes that are running and click "End
Process". No reboot needed.
