ActiveSync 4.2 beta and Outlook 2003 Contacts Properties Changed

When I synced with Outlook 2003 it changed a couple things in my contacts.
One thing it changed is the format for
"Display as" email name. It used to look like this: John Doe
([email protected]). Now it just looks like this: (e-mail address removed). So when I
send an email the name of the person is no longer in the To: field, only the
email address.

It also changed the properties of what format to send the email in. It used
to say "Let Outlook decide the best sending format" Now it says, Send using
Outlook Rich Text Format.

Please let me know how I can get back my original settings. I have over
2,000 people in my contacts and don't want to do it manually.

So much for heeding the advice to not use Beta software on a production
machine.

Hi Debi,

You *might* be lucky with the following option: Tools, Options, Contact
Options. There you can set the display as default. I doubt you'll be
lucky, but it's worth a shot.

The only reason I used ActiveSync 4.2 Beta was because I couldn't get 4.1 to
work!

Hi Debi.

I don't know what PIM you use on your Pocket PC, whether the native
Pocket Outlook, Agenda Fusion, or Pocket Informant (My favorite!), but
either way, go to Pocket Informant's website, http://www.webis.com,
and look at WebIS Toolbox. It is basically a collection of tools that
you can use to clean up your PIM database on the Pocket PC.

The tool you're looking for is "Contact Display Name Fix". It allows
you to set how you want the format for Contacts with name and
company", and "Contacts with name only" You use a combo box (drop-down
menu) and after selecting the formats you want, tap on Start and it
makes all the changes for you.

It also has an extensice Find and Replace fuction where you can find
all text saying "xxxxx", and have it replaced with whatever you like -
for contacts, appointments, and/or tasks. remove duplicate contacts,
auto-categorize as many records at a time as you like. (Eg, finds all
tasks with State=NJ and change Category to "New Jersey Stuff" or
whatever.

All in all an excellent application - and it will fix what needs
fixing for you right now!

I only wish that it had a counterpart for Outlook on the desktop PC.

Milly - Of what beta do you speak? Neither Outlook 2003 nor Activesync
have beta versions released as far as I know.

If you're using Windows Mobile 2003 or earlier, you should be using
ActiveSync 3.8.
