active directory wont install on second domain controller

Hi,

I have a windows 2k server and Im thinking of replacing it with a higher
spec machine. I've install windows 200 server on that machine and trying to
install active directory on it but Im not too sure of how to do this as when
I do it says it can not connect or contact my domain controller. My domain
is called company.com and it says it can't find the controller...

Have I done something wrong in setting up the domain or dns settings?
Please help

\Where is Your DNS settings pointing on tis new machine. It should be
pointing to this first DC as this machine should be able to get
information about Your domain. I think that right now it is pointing to
itself or to any other external DNS server and is not able to locte Your
DC.

Hi,

it is pointing to the existing DC as its DNS.. I made it join the domain
and it did that ok.

hmm without joining the domain i talso should work properly
