Active directory replication schedule

Hello, can someone explane to me what the differents are between replication
schedules? I mean when i open sites and services I see one schedule on the
NTDS settings of the site (NTDS site setting), drill down on that site i see
a schedule on the replication partner server settings, and I can see a
schedule on the site links. I cant exacly tell what the different is can
anybody tell me?

Thanks,

Eric

Hi there,

Site replication schedule controls when servers INTERsite can use the
particular site link to replicate. eg - servers that are across WAN links
will only replicate when the time is within the permitted time controlled by
the Site Link schedule (ie bridgehead servers will only replicate during
this permitted time window).

Replication interval between partners within a site (INTRAsite) is
automatically configured by AD. The schedule of Partners INTERsite (ie
between bridgehead servers) is how often within the Site Link schedule they
will operate ... eg .. If a Site Link is permitted to be used between 9-5pm
M-F a bridgehead server may want to replicate every 60 mins within that 9-5p
period.

Hope that is helpful. My AD is a bit rusty so this may be slightly outdated
info ... my apologies in advance if that is the case.

Rgds

Sites are not usually considered to have replicatin "schedules" (see
Intrasite
below); the Intersite (different site) replication schedule is assigned to
the
Site Links as is the Frequency.

Intersite: Bridgehead Server (DCs) replicate between sites during Schedule
times at Frequency intervals.

Intrasite: Within a site replication is almost immediate, being delayed only
seconds to minutes before full replication even among many DCs will
complete.

This question is quite common and is born out of poor interface design
on Microsoft's part.

The connection objects that exist beneath a DC's NTDS settings object
represent the replication relationship between precisely 2 DCs and cover
both intrasite (the 2 DCs are in the same site) and intersite (the 2 DCs
are in different sites) replication relationships. The intersite
replication schedule represents when the 2 DCs are permitted to
replicate with one another and is inherited from the schedule defined on
the site-link object that connects the 2 sites in which the 2 DCs exist.
The intrasite replication schedule represents the polling interval that
2 DCs in the same site use to detect failures on their replication
partners -- this is inherited from the schedule on the NTDS Site
Settings object (this is the piece I was referring to as poorly
represented -- it's also poorly documented).

Does that make sense?
