Active Directory FSMO Roles

Hello,
I am fairly new to AD so this may be a very simple answer.

I have an AD structure across 2 physical locations, same domain setup
as 2 different sites. Recently, our first domain controller passed
away without hope of it coming back, so we seized all of the FSMO roles
to another domain controller at the site. I then followed the MS KB
article on removing metadata about the server using ntdsutil.

Today I noticed that the domain controllers on the other site is still
showing the OLD server as being in charge of the FSMO roles. Is there
a step I have to do to get the other site to see the new changes?
Shouldn't this have happened automatically?

It sounds like your replication is broken.

You need to do the metadata cleanup of the old DC. Give things a couple
hours to settle down and see if replications working - you may need to
create a manual link or two in AD Sites and Services temporarily if things
are still acting up.
