Hey, I thought it let you activate the product 5 times before it gives you
a
problem.
I also heard that they only keep the activations for 3 months, so it
SHOULD
let you re-activate over the Internet.
I may be wrong about the 3 months, but if you call them (again, the
Activation phone number will be given to you) it will save time to have
the
Key available (it should be on a sticker attached to your machine) handy
so
you aren't trying to find it with them on the phone.
As I recall the main reason for the activation key is to stop people from
duplicating one disk and using it on 500 machines, so they are pretty
lenient about more activations).
Oh, one more thing, just because it is OEM software doesn't mean you don't
have the warranty or support; it just means that the manufacturer of the
computer didn't pay for the retail package. Some companies (HP/Compaq
specifically) provide their own support (I think that they get a discount)
so Microsoft will tell you to call them first. An activation problem is
seperate, and there SHOULD NOT be a problem even if it is one of those
brands.
I hope this helps,
David Bock.

When you activate if the internet activation fails the resulting screen has
the phone numbers on it. You need to have that screen open when you
call.

No, I haven't tried that yet. Is there somewhere I can get the phone
number
for this type of stuff for?
:
Jon;
First, did you attempt to activate by phone?
You may have that option and if so you can save your $.

Hi,
There was something wrong with the motherboard on my computer, so I
changed
it. But now windows xp thinks its a different computer.
Could someone point me in the direction of what Microsoft's phone
number
(for activation problems) is?
