activation

I have previously activated my Windows XP. (By the way,
haven't upgraded to SP1). Now, after rebooting, a windows
message stating "This copy of windows must be activated
with Microsoft before you can logon on" something like
this, and gives me an option to click yes or no to
activate now. The problem is, whether i clicked yes or
no, it still bring me back to the same logon screen,
what's the problem??? It's like I cannot activate even if
I want to because the message keeps popping out. Please
help asap.

Reboot to Safe Mode with Networking
Reboot tapping F8 each second
Select Safe Mode with Networking
Start/Run
Type "regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll" ENTER
Type "regsvr32.exe licdll.dll" ENTER

You cannot log in with networking enabled if the activation has not been done, you get the same message as was stated in the first post.
I also tried these commands in normal safe mode which we can get into and it does not help.

If you can get into Safe mode, and have run those commands there, go to
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Activate Windows
and use the option to Activate by phone, calling a toll free number that
will be given. A few minutes hassle, but much less than trying to mend
things. If you cannot even get to that I think the only course is a
repair reinstall of the system

Yeah, it still says that i cannot activate while in safe mode.
Format it is then, teach me to go on holiday :s
