I'm about to change my motherboard CPU and RAM. Will I slide without
re-activating?
OS=XP Pro.

Also, comments welcome on below new hardware:

Gigabyte GA-8KNXP
P4 3.0ghz /800mhz FSB
1024mb pc3200 DDR (400mhz) RAM

Thanks,

Hello,

Thank you for your post.

I think it is very likely that you will be asked to reactivate the Windows
XP after replacing motherboard, CPU, and RAM. Generally speaking, Product
Activation is able to tolerate a certain degree of change in a hardware
configuration by allowing a current hash value to have a degree of
difference from the hash value that was originally activated. As a result,
we can change the hardware without the product believing it is on a
different PC than the one it was activated on. If we completely overhaul
the hardware making substantial hardware changes (in this case, you will
change motherboard, it can be considered a big change on hardware
configuration), reactivation may be required.

Thanks for the response, Joe. Upon further reflection, I believe you are
right, especially since this particular mobo has NIC and sound onboard,
which may push it over the re-activate cliff. I suppose I'll wind up doing a
fresh install as well.

Thanks again,

Sound doesn't matter to WPA. The NIC counts as 3 votes, and the IDE
controller does too, as well as graphics, if that was changed.

Greetings --

Normally, assuming a retail license, unless the new motherboard is
virtually identical to the old one (same chipset, same IDE
controllers, same BIOS version, etc.), you'll need to perform a repair
(a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation, at the very least:

How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade of Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/directory/article.asp?ID=KB;EN-US;Q315341

As always when undertaking such a significant change, back up any
important data before starting.

This will probably also require re-activation. If it's been more
than 120 days since you last activated that specific Product Key,
you'll most likely be able to activate via the internet without
problem. If it's been less, you might have to make a 5 minute phone
call.

Hello Mxh,

Thank you for your update.

Yes, it is good to perform a fresh install after upgrading the devices
(motherboard & NIC & Sound Card, CPU, RAM), and I believe that you will
enjoy a wonderful performance of the operating system on the upgraded
computer.

Please feel free to let us know if you need our further assistance. It is
my pleasure to help. Thanks! :)
