About a week ago my computer crashed... When I bought the
pc it already had XP Home. The man I took the pc to wiped
everything out of it and reloaded XP Home. Now when I log
on it says I have so many days til activation. To
activate now I open the dialogue box and it says that the
program is already active. The time left to activate
(according to the pop up that appears every time I shut
the puter down) is only 24 days. Is there some way I can
change that? And what will happen when the days run out?
How do I activate the puter so that it actually
registers? Thanks for your help. Brenda

Is there not an activation number somewhere on the
Machine or in the manual? Did you register with Microsoft?

Try repairing the Activation .DLL file registration:

Use Start- Run and enter the following text in the dialog box:
regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll

Then do it again with the following text:
regsvr32.exe licdll.dll

Good luck

Get on the net, then go to
Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Activate Windows

If the 'activate on the net now' does not work, or it says it is already
activated, do two things:

Find and copy away the two files windows\system32\wpa.dbl and wpa.bak

Start - Run - Regedit.exe go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT
\CurrentVersion\WPAEvents
and in the right pane double click on OOBETimer
and carefully change the first byte, only, to 00

Close it, shutdown, reboot, and the activate on the net should now be
available, and work

Yes, you do need to Activate Windows before 24 days are up but you do
NOT need to register, that is optional.

To register, goto start, programs, accessories, system tools, Activate
Windows (or double click the activate icon in the system tray).
