I have recently acquired a virus, took my computer in to a guru who cleaned
it all up. I bought my software Office XP Standard for Students and Teachers
a year or two ago. The guru told me I would have to reinstall the XP at
home. I did so and every time I go into Excel or Word it tells me I have to
Activate, I would TRY to do so and it would tell me it was all ready
Activated??!?!
NOW, Do not know if this is something to do with the activation or not, but
I cannot key anything on any of my old word documents or excel spreadsheets??
Can someone assist me with this???? On what could be wrong????

Whenever you re-install XP, or Office, you need to re-activate the software.
During the activation process, you can activate the software over the
Internet, if the last activation was 120 days ago or earlier. However, if
the activation fails over the Internet, then you are still entitled to get
the soaftware re-activated by using the "Activate by phone" option.

You should have kept a back-up or a master image of the system to restore for
just such an outcome.

I would back up all of my data files and settings by using the Files and
Settings Transfer Wizard (FAST) under Accessories => System Tools and then
format the C: drive and reinstall XP and Office XP frokm scratch.

Office XP's programs are saying that they're already activated because you
didn't do a clean installation, you installed over the exixting installation.

You can then restore your files and settings by running the FAST wizard in
the new installation.

Eric,

Can you be more specific about the FAST wizard. Once you've done it, where
do you put it so you can use it after reformatting?

Thanks,
