Activation: Repaired, activate... logged-off!

Mike Robinson

I've repaired an installation of XP Pro on a laptop when the System Hive
became corrupted. Unfortunately, I can't activate.

When I try to log on I am told that I need to activate (Yes), but then the
PC is logged off without the Activation screen being shown.

I have installed SP2 from Safe Mode (this did not solve the activation
problem), and I have re-registered the LICDLL.DLL and REGWIZC.DLL files as
suggested in other posts on this newsgroup.

Please can someone suggest a resolution?

Regards,

Mike

Thanks for the advice, but that's not the problem. I can't get the
activation screen to appear so I don't have a code to give to Microsoft's
support people.

Make a new Windows XP CD with SP2 "slipstreamed",
then perform a "Repair Install".

Either one of the following utilities makes slipstreaming
(integrating) SP2 into Windows XP a breeze:

I've created a new CD as suggested and repaired from that. Unfortunately I
still have the same problem - I am logged off before the activation page
appears.

Can you suggest anything else, or any tests I could perform?

Thank-you,

Regards,

Mike

Contact Microsoft directly:

I've talked to Microsoft's activation people, they put me on to Toshiba
because Windows has an OEM license. Toshiba have asked me to use the
recovery cd, because the build is pre-activated and using the OEM CD for a
repair has broken the activation stage.

It would be nice to follow this up by opening an MS support call, but it's
a bit expensive and not worth it in this case (I've got a ghost image of
the system so I'll just copy the critical files back to disk).

Thanks for all your help!
