I recently purchased a system from Dell that was loaded with XP (and with the
XP disk). My intention with the purchase from Dell was to create a home
network. I didn't read the fine print on the XP CD and loaded XP onto
another system. The OS loaded fine and I transferred 40GB worth of important
files onto my other system. I didn't use my other system for a month and
now, when I try to access it, I'm getting a Windows Activation window. I
called the activation line to activate it, but it told me that I couldn't
activate the OS because I couldn't install it on another system. Now I'm
stuck with a system I can't activate and 40GB worth of files on the system.
I wasn't trying to subvert the licensing by setting up a network; I just
didn't realize I couldn't use my OS disk for that. Dell is no help. Any
ideas or suggestions?
Thanks,
Chris
