Activation Problems

I just had my computer repaired and it hasn't worked since. They crashed the
hard drive so that was replaced and they said they replaced the bios. They
installed xp professional. When I couldn't activate windows I wound up on the
phone activation nightmare and finally I got a person, and after getting new
numbers the activation said it worked. Then I downloaded security upgrades
from the microsoft download site. I restarted the computer and it goes to the
welcome page. I click on the user and it says that I have to activate the
computer - yes or no. If I click on yes it goes to the activation window and
says this computer is already activated. I click OK and it goes back to the
welcome page and I click on the user and it says I have to activate the
computer. If I choose no I stay on the welcome page. I called the Microsoft
activation number and they transferred me where I held on for 25 minutes to
be told call tomorrow. I am stuck on the welcome page. Anyone know what to do
now. I am using a different computer to get help if anyone was wondering how
I am writing this. :)

'They' repaired it. What repair options do YOU have available? A setup cd
from Microsoft? A 'recovery' cd from the maker of the system? Some 'mirror'
of the original install?
If you don't know, who would? Find out what tools you have available.

You are prompted to activate Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 every time that you start
the computer

Thank you for responding. My daughter uses this computer at college. It came
with everything preinstalled. She can't find the original back-up discs that
we made when she first got it so we don't have anything. It just says this
copy of Windows must be activated. The place we had it repaired closed right
after we got the computer back. No one knows where they went. I think the
problem might be because the computer originally had Windows XP Media Center
2005 and now it has Windows XP Professional. I told them not to put
Professional on it when they offered to but they did it anyway. They said it
was registered and activated and a legal copy. I did tell Microsoft this when
I did the phone activation and the phone activation was accepted. The start
up window just says, "This copy of windows must be activated with Microsoft
before you can log on. Do you want to activate Windows now? Yes No."
