Activation problem

I have been having an ongoing problem with activating Vista. I am regularly
prompted to activate, although I have already done so many times. This
usually happens after a computer crash or hard reboot as opposed to using
the usual shutdown method. It sometimes happens after installing a new
driver or new program. My hardware config is unchanged since I installed
Vista and i was using Vista for maybe 2 months before this problem appeared.
I searched Google and could only find the KB article 931573 which states
the problem only affects OEM or Volume Licensed versions of Vista but I have
a retail version (Home Premium upgraded to Ult via Express Upgrade) and I am
not sure how safe it is to try this solution on a retail copy. Has anyone
done this and did it work ok?

On an unrelated issue. When I wake Vista from sleep, my monitor will not
wake. Even switching it off and on again does not help. I then have to
press the reset button on my PC (usually getting the activation dialog) to
get back to windows. I think this is related to my Graphics Card driver - i
have a GeForce 7900GT. This seems to be a recent problem starting when I
changed the GC driver (158.18), but uninstalling the driver doesn't help.
Is this a known nvidia problem, and is there a version of the driver which
doesn't have it? Does uninstalling the driver remove all components or are
there some which I shoild remove manually?

Thanks.

Oh yeah I got the same problem just a few days ago and had to do a clean
install of Vista! After 8 hours on the phone with Microsoft No help line it
pretty much boils down to IE 7 not recognising your copy of vista. Thus you
get the "you need to activate windows.....AGAIN!" Mine completely shut down
and I couldnt even try to activcate windows at all. Its a microsoft software
issue all the way around. My best advice is to do a clean install of vista.
It still saves all your files in the windows.old file for you so you dont
lose anything. Its just a pain in the butt!
