Activation bugs

I legitimately upgraed from xp sp2 to rc1. no problem installing, although I
had to restart installer several times to do things like go from fat32 to
NTFS.

But I cannot activate thanks to a cryptic 0xC004D401 error. some file
mismatch. I've also not found any phone numbers for telephone activation.
After which I can't run most windows apps like control panel applets, config
screens, etc.

This is a pain. Any ides greatly appreciated.

Please someone out there tell me how to activate this animal.

Thanks. Ben

I noticed posts by benjo on 9/25/06 and NIR MSFT dated 10/3/06 to the effect
that the Vista Team would like to work with the poster to troubleshoot the
problem. Please pardon my intrusion but I would like contribute the process
also. At least I would appreciate any information that develops from that
work.

I acquired Vista RC1 directly from Microsoft and used the Product Key
supplied with the disk. Then, I installed it over WinXP Media Center 2005
with SR2 on my Pentium 4 3.4Ghz. Fom the beginning I have been getting the
same 0xC004D401 about the security processor reporting a system file mismatch
error message that others have been writing about in the newsgoups. That
message pops up randomly every 10 to 20 minutes. I have been unable to
validate the installation.

Thanks, any help will be appreciated.

Thank you for taking on this case.

The list of applications on my computer is probably too extensive to list
here so I ran a Belarc Advisor Report in Word format. That report provides a
very comprehensive list of everything on the computer. Please provide an
email address and I will be happy to send it to you.

I opened the link you provided for submitting a service request but found no
"service request number." My email is (e-mail address removed) and for openers I
repeated my remarks in this thread. Thank you
