A bug in activation?

M

Merzhin

As a MS TechNet Plus subscriber, I received the Beta Windows Vista Build
5270 in my February shipment.

No problem for installation with the key on the disc. The problem comes
after, during the activation.

In a first time, Vista activation runs perfectly fine and successful (VGA is
OK).

In a second time, about 2 hours after the activation, Vista appears to be
not activated and lets me 13 days to activate again.

When I run a new activation, the process hangs up and I got the following
error code 0x8007000D : "data is invalid".

I have reported this issue to TechNet Support ([email protected]).

They confirmed me by phone the key is right and does not need to be
replaced. So, my problem could be coming from bad internet connection
settings and they told me to search support on MS newsgroups.

I re-installed Vista three times and got the same issue. I have reported it
using Microsoft Beta Client but no answer at this time.

In the viewer, event ID in "Software Licensing Service" is 1010.

However, my connection works fine (ADSL ISP => Free IP/ADSL 10/1 mbs with
FreeBox router). I have no any access restriction on the web or in my
network. Windows update and Windows Defender update work fine too.

I don't understand.

Did somebody experience same issue to activate Vista and how to fix this
bug?

Thanks

I've had the same problem with 5308 once, but I've just had to
reinstall Vista once to fix it. Make a clean reinstall, not an
"upgrade" or "repair".

This is what I've done three times, clean install and I got same issue.
Even with CTP Feb B5308 and MS Ofice 2007 Beta-1 TR, Office is activated and
Vista no.

I've had the same problem after installing AV software (first Avast Home,
then - after a full reinstall - NAV 2006).

Thanks Pierre,
I saw your recent post about activation.
Only NOD32 on first installation.
No AV installed at this time and it's the fourth install...
Re-typed the key : no more result.

Have you installed any virtual cd software?

I installed an old version of daemon tools (3.02) on Vista 5308 so that
I could install by Oracle client software which I keep iso images.
Within the hour of installation I got a popup saying Vista was no
longer licensed and any attempt to go through the Windows Activation
always came up with the same error as you - 0x8007000D.

I de-installed Daemon tools and Activation worked first time.

Just to prove it, I reinstalled Daemon and the Welcome Centre
immediately said "This machine is unlicensed", and Activation failed,
removed Daemon again and Activation worked.

Bingo Cary, you're right!
I had Daemon Tools (3.02) installed. I uninstalled it and the activation was
successful!
Now, the problem is to know the reason why Vista becomes unlicensed after
installing DT.
It's a very useful software.
Thanks a lot

I installed it too, I plumb forgot about it!
Not only is it very useful software, but it's recommended by Microsoft on
the MSDN downloads news page! Of course they probably don't expect us to use
it on Vista...

I have DaemonTools 3.33 installed on Feb CTP, and no activation
problem!
Just make sure DT 3.33 is ran with admin rights, and it works fine.

Thanks Christophe, I now tried 3.33 and it works without causing any
activation problems.
