I am trying to load Word 2007 on my computer and activate it, however when I
do that I lose my Word 2000. Is there a way I can load it on without losing
2000? My wife has to use 2000 for work, but I would like to use the 2007
version.

It isn't the activation that's the problem, it's in the installation.
When the Office 2007 installer asks whether you want to do an upgrade
or a new installation, tell it to do a new installation. That won't
remove the existing old version (which you should reinstall first if
it's already gone).

To be able to run both versions without having the installer pop up
each time you switch from one to the other, see
http://word2007bible.herbtyson.com/2007/04/15/word-2007-and-word-2003-coexisting/
for a registry change. It should work for Word 2000 the same as for
Word 2003, but you'll have to use 9.0 instead of 11.0 for the version
number.
