Activate Windows for the second time?

I have 2 hard drives on my computer. I unhooked the Windows XP boot drive
because I wanted to install another OS on the other one and set the fresh
disk as a master by jumper. My computer hung up, so I replaced everything
like it was before I unhooked the boot drive, and started up. When I tried
to log on, Windows said that my hardware had changed, and I had to
re-activate. I couldn't reactivate with the old code, and now I have 3 days
to reactivate, or I can't use Windows. I use Windows XP Home SP2. I don't
know why Windows won't let me keep working when I had the same hardware
attached. Can anyone help me out here?

When there is a hardware change (HDD, or anything else
small, yet major), I believe you need to call MS to get
it 're-activated'.
