Action cancelled

The computer has been formatted and since putting windows
xp home edition back on we can no longer get windows
automatic updates. It scans for them, says what is needed
but when we go to "review and install updates" the page
comes up "action cancelled" any ideas please. Thankyou.

First thing to do is to close any security sotfware.

If still no joy then.
