Action Canceled (not related to hosts file)

C

Comeonpilgrim

I'm trying to access my company's Exchange webmail using IE 6 SP1. After I
enter my username and password the page starts to load and the frames are
there but after 20 seconds or so both frames display the "Action canceled"
message.

My hosts file is empty except for the local host. If I try to access the
webmail using Firefox 0.8 it works fine. If I go into the other room and use
the other computer both IE 6 SP1 and Firefox 0.8 can access the webmail.
Both computers are running XP Professional SP1.

I'd prefer to use IE with the webmail because Exchange displays an
IE-optimized page when you're using IE that makes it easier to navigate my
mail folders. Firefox gets a simpler version.

Anyone know what the problem is or how I can find out?

TIA,
Pilgrim

Anything in your restricted Zone being blocked like "doubleclick"

Any popup killer or security programs running that could cause this?

Do you get this message for pictures only or the whole page?

Nope, it's empty.

None.

Why do I see the Action Cancelled message?
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm#message?
--

Blank page issues, not sure since you have getting an page with an error
message.
http://www.colba.net/~hlebo49/blankpge.htm

Next time you get this error, look at the source file and see you get the
complete code.
That is from a <html> to </html> tag.

p.s. Please do not cut the previous messages, any one wanting to give
further advice will not know the problem that you first enumerated and the
following actions you took.

My hosts file is clean. And yeah, I'm getting the Action canceled error not
a blank page. Here's the complete HTML. There's two frames and they both
contain this:

The source code you included is from the error issues by windows.

Give us a URL where you are having problems.

Hidden file?
Make sure your settings allow you to view "Hidden files". Open up any
explorer windows and click on "Tools" => "Folder Options" => "View" and be
sure to check off "Show Hidden Files and Folders".

Scan your computer all drivers for all files *hos* ( *hos* ) see if some
malware has placed it some where else.

Delete completely your TIF the Index may be corrupt.

I URL is my company's Exchange webmail. I can't really give out the address.
Besides there's a username/password prompt you have to fill out before the
page even loads.

I always have it show hidden files. I have only one hosts file and the only
entry in it is "127.0.0.1 localhost". Besides the site works fine in
Firefox 0.8 so that couldn't be the problem. I just reloaded my system in
March and I have Ad-aware and SpyBot. There isn't any malware or spyware on
the system.

I completely deleted my TIF directory per the instructions in the link you
sent. But still no luck.

Time for the expert. Post you log to this forum.
The tutorial link listed below may give you some clues.
Unless you are very sure of what you let HJT fix, DO NOT do it.

Go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php#det
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware] or download direct (below):
http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip

If you get a 404 error or Access denied, try:
http://216.180.252.218/~spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/hijackthis.zip

Unzip the Download file in a NEW FOLDER that you can create before you start
the download.
DO NOT use any of the TEMP folders that are presently in your computer.
Double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates "hijackthis.log")

Next, HijackThis | Config [button] | Misc Tools [button]
Click: Generate StartupList log [button] (generates "startuplist.txt")

Next, go to the below location:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

Sign in, then copy and paste both files in your message.
