ACT vs. BCM

i would really like to convert to bcm but act seems to have a compelling
feature that bcm doesn't - in act, you can simply scroll down the notes for
any record and read them in real time whereas, in bcm, it seems you can only
view the titles of different notes, logs, etc. and have to open each one in
order to read it. am i missing here? also, is there a way, as there is in
act, to easily print out the text of all the notes, logs etc. associated with
any one record?

any help here would be most appreciated. thanks!

BCM follows the Outlook Journal folder model of having each history item be
its own separate file with an identified subject line. As a former ACT user
myself I can't say whether it is better or not but it is different and it all
depends upon your preferences and how wed you are to them.

To answer your second question go to the tool bar on top and click on
Business Tools>Reports>Business Contacts>Business Contact History>Select the
Contact. This will generate a multi page report print out of everything you
have done that is linked to that contact. You can do this same thing for
individual Accounts and Opportunities.

I enjoy using BCM, although it is not without fault.

Once all the linking is done between contacts, calendar, notes, email, etc,
you can view each contact with it's links below, ("Expanded") in the Journal
area of Outlook, "Business History in Business Contact Manager".

Also, you can set the View to "Auto Preview" which gives a sample of whats
inside each link. What you actually see is noted below:
Email - Subject, Created/Due, From, To, Cc
Appointment/Meeting - Subject, Created/Due, Start Time, End Time, Location
Note - Subject, Created/Due, Comments (first 7 lines)
Other item types are probably similar, but these are all I use.
And, of course you can "Customize Current View" collumn headers

I was curious, so I printed a test page in this Journal area. It printed
exactly what I saw on screen ... a list of every contact, expanded with every
link, and the auto preview information for each linked item.

Hope this clarifies what BCM can do. There may be more, but this is my
experience.

Some features described in this thread appear not to work, at least in my
experience in running with a 2007 release. It would be great to somehow
report, view, or printout a field having more than 96 characters of text.
This is the apparent limitation on size of user defined fields in BCM - and
it is simply not enough characters for me to describe what I need to describe
and include in a report, view, or printout.

In my experience, the ability to print what is on the preview (as described
below) fails in Outlook 2007. The ability to preview at all is not a feature
in Outlook + BCM 2007, at least within the Communication History in Business
Contact Manager.
