I recently upgraded my MS Office to Version 2003. However it eliminated the Acrobat 5.0 buttons from the new Word toolbar. Dose Acrobat 5.0 not support Word 2003? is there a way to make it support and function with Word 2003?

After the upgrade the Acrobat buttons are missing. I reinstaled Acrobat (5) after office upgrade, hoping it will help but it didn't

Hi, Gideon. Did you try the solution suggested in the article?
Specifically, the article says:

QUOTE:

To add Acrobat to the toolbar follow these steps:

1. In Word, click View, and then click Toolbars.
2. If PDFMaker 5.0 is listed, make sure that it is selected.
3. If PDFMaker 5.0 is not listed, click Tools, and then click
Templates & Add-ins.
4. If PDFMaker.dot is listed, make sure that it is selected, and
then click OK.
5. If PDFMaker.dot is not listed, follow these steps:
1. Click Add.
2. Locate the following folder:

Program Files/Adobe/Acrobat 5.x/PDFMaker
3. Click PDFMaker.dot, and then click OK.
4. Click OK to close the Templates & Add-ins dialog box.
6. Click View, click Toolbars, and then make sure that PDFMaker 5.0
is selected.

UNQUOTE.

Does the suggested solution work?

Acrobat 5 pre-dates Word 2003 and does not recognise the latter's directory
structure. If you ensure that its add-in is in the correct Office startup
folder - usually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\STARTUP it
should load\ automatically. make sure you have the lastest update for this
version of Acrobat.

I have also experienced similar problem.

Do the following to correct: -

1. Go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\STARTUP

2. Right click on pdfmaker.dot file

3. click on summary & scroll down to Origin

4. In Origin scroll down to application. Change name from winword 9 to
MS OFFICE 2003

No when opening word 2003 Adobe writer icons should be displayed in word 2003
toolbar. Error messages whilst opening word 2003 should also disappear.

Mark

I am baffled. Everything about Office 2003 and Acrobat 5 works just fine for
me EXCEPT for this **** system message from MS Word warning me about a
possible incompatibility and urging me to go throw money at the problem
upgrading to Adobe 6. Can I turn this message off somehow, which is seriously
annoying when for example I trying to insert a Word object in a Powerpoint
document? I don't by the way get any such message from Excel or Powerpoint.

It seems likely that you have an older version of the Word add-in installed.
Excel and Powerpoint are not relevant in connection with the Word add-in.
Have you checked that you have the latest version?

An alternative is to use the method described on the following link to make
the add-in available only when you need it.
