Acrobat 8.1 is installed, but I'm still not able to save as pdf in Outlook. I
am able to preview pdf in Outlook, and the other Office programs seem to be
playing nice with Acrobat. Help!

Sounds like a question you should be asking Adobe.

Give me a break, plz, Brian!
No, it works just fine in MS Word. Seems to have more to do with the lead
role that MSWord and Excell have when it comes to add-ins for Outlook.
If I understand, you don't know what's going on. Hopefully someone who does
know will understand.

I can't imagine why you think the lack of operation of a non-Outlook program
is an Outlook problem.

Brian, Sorry to seem abrupt, but the tiff between MS and Adobe over the issue
in Outlook 2007 was, well, rather public. Even MS announced 8.1 as having
"solved" the problem. I had the MS announcement up earlier, would rather not
have to search for it again.
Do I need to repost this so that someone familiar with the issue might help?

P.S. You wrote, "lack of operation of a non-Outlook program

NO! Its not a the "operation" of a non-outlook program. Its "save as pdf" IN
Outlook.

But that functionality is added by the Adobe program. Outlook doesn't come
with it natively.

Sorry about Brian's help....I finally had to revert to a previous version of
Adobe to fix a fonts problem, you may have to do the same until Adobe fixes
it.

I use CutePDF to generate my PDF files. It's as simple as printing a
document.
