Accounts

I have an XP Pro PC with SP2 and all security updates.

I checked on the accounts set up on this PC and found 6 accounts:-
Administrator - I expected this one
ASPNET - also expected
Guest - also expected but probably superfluous
HelpAssistant
me - expected
Support_xxxxxxxx - not expected. The xxxxxxxx is an 8 digit alphanumeric

I can't see any need for the HelpAssistant and Support_xxxxxxxx accounts. The
icons for these accounts all have a red x.

The HelpAssistant is labeled as an account for providing remote assistance and
the Support_xxxxxxxx is labeled a vendors account for help and support neither
of which I am getting.

How do I delete the unwanted accounts?

If I Right click on 'My Computer' and click on 'Manage' and then Local Users and
select the unwanted accounts and then hit the delete key will that be all that
is necessary or do I have to get into the registry and delete some entries as
well?

TIA.

The red X means that the account is disabled -- nobody can use it till is
enabled again. If you are sure you will never need them again then go ahead
and delete them. Deleting them from the Computer Manager will only delete
their account: if any of the accounts have ever logged on their will also
have a profile (under Documents & Settings). You can also delete any space
used by the dead profile from My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> "User
Profiles". Select the user account that you have deleted and click on
Delete.

cheers,

Thanks Marco. They're gone. They were not used so the only profiles under
Documents & Settings were for Administrator, All Users and me.
