account locked out but not for normal reasons!

Hi, I have checked google groups but have not found a similar problem
to mine:

Running XP Pro, I have the original admin acct (renamed), one account
with admin priviliges, one power use and one user.

I have just tried to login under the admin account I created, and
received the message that my account had been locked out.

I made no errors in typing the password, my local sec. policy allows
for 3 invalid logons (of which i did none), and i have been OK all day
up until now. i have downloaded the new msft patches and fixes, but
other than that nothing. am running on a cable modem, with the XP Pro
firewall up, updated Norton Antivirus definitions as of Oct. 6, AND I
just did a virus and port scan on their website. All fine.

In the account settings, the password is set never to expire, and the
system as a whole (under local sec., has min. requirements, 42 days
max age, 0 days minimum age, and 0 passwords rememberd).
in security options, the maximum machine account age is 80 days, but
even if this did invalidate it, i just recently changed it.

Why would this happen? I know my system pretty well and this is
driving me crazy! I was able to log on under the other users but I am
afraid I have lost all the files under that other user forever!

Sugestions welcome as soon as possible, Thanks

Any scheduled tasks set to run as that account ?
Is this the only machine on your network, assuming you have
allowed something inbound through the firewall.

Hi, thanks for your answer. I don't have any scheduled tasks running
on any accounts. The BMMTask.exe had been automatically loaded on my
IBM thinkpad, but I actually disabled the task scheduler service
overall. Windows update disabled in services as well.

This is a standalone computer, firewalled thru the XP firewall
(ICF/ICS, but no external software programs). So inbound requests are
automatically blocked (right??) I run Symantic AV Corporate edition,
which was provided through my university. So the only way I log onto a
server is to access the school's system (ie email, etc), but the AV is
set up as a server as per standard settings the school created for
those downloading the free AV through them. (definitions updated,
system scanned OK)

OEM settings have my computer part of a workgroup, but there is no one
else on the workgroup..... I have M$ printer/files sharing off, but I
am a Client for M$ Networks under my LAN connection (Cable modem),
b.c. my school requires it.

This is confusing to me because it seems in some ways I am a
standalone and in some ways I am not. Does this make sense?

Thanks in advance for your help
