After removing malware, I decided to check my Add/Remove programs list and
thought it odd that there were two identical Adobe Photoshops listed. I
decided to delete one, and of course it deleted both! My machine won't allow
me to do a system restore for some reason. I tred both as myself, and as
administrator. Also, when my machine is booting, I get a message that "NET.
system configuration does not appear to be an installed service". Not sure
what that means, but I really need my photoshop back. I'm a graphic artist
and it's how I make my living!

Please help!

Heather

uh....

If you did a "uninstall" that means that all the files that were integrated
into the o.s. have been removed... And the only way to get it operational
again, is to install all the dlls, modify the registry, etc....... I think
there are maybe some 25,000 files you would have to wurk with..

Your restore doesn't work for some reason, you say..... But what exactly
are you saying..? Possibly there may some old restore point and a way to get
it wurkable....

ps: I would get something to remove the filename from the add/remove
programs to keep these acksidents from happening in the future, eg,
unistalling your livelyhood...

Yes.. I admit.. it was very stupid! -- lucky for me, I found a place that
had a full dowload of the software for only $39.00. I'm psyched!

You bought a copy of Photoshop for $39?

This is a product for legitimately sells for $300 or so. If you paid $39,
you very obviously bought an illegitimate pirated copy.

i remember now. this was before adobe had a centralize method of registering
the product keys online..

Back then copies could be made and installed and they could all use the same
product key......

Hi Heather,

System Restore would not be any help in restoring Photoshop. System
Restore monitors a core set of system files and most of the registry. In
a typical application installation there are file types that System
Restore does not monitor, and therefore will not restore.

As or System Restore not starting, let's take a look at Event Viewer for
any System Restore logs that may have been created recently that may
help us diagnose the problem.

Go to Start - Run and type eventvwr.msc and press enter.
Click on System in the left pane.
Click the gray title "Source" at the top of the source name column in
the right pane to sort by source name, look for "sr" and "srservice".
Double click on each of these events, then click on the button below the
two arrows in the upper right corner. This will copy the event
information to the clipboard. Paste the information for each of the two
event here. There's no need to post duplicate Event ID's.

How do I use the Event Viewer to search for System Restore logs?

Is it still a pirate copy even though I had the full version to begin with?
It's Photoshop 6.0 and I originally bought it through the on-line school I
was attending for less than $600.

If you bought it from a bonafide reseller then you have the license to
use it for along as you want to. The price paid is irrelevant as long
as ou have the necessary paper work and original media with you at all
time.

Have you tried asking this to Macromedia/adobe on their official
newsgroups? The link is here but you will need to register first so
make sure you supply free webmail address such as hotmail or yahoo:
