Hi. I'm having trouble getting XP to authenticate and browse ME
shares.
We have a peer-to-peer workgroup network with the following machines:
1. Windows ME, with Internet Connection Sharing, etc., configured
using the Home Networking Wizard. This provides Internet access and
IP addresses to the rest of the machines on the LAN.
2. Windows ME (DHCP client).
3. Windows XP Professional laptop, simple file sharing, SP1 (DHCP
client).
All connect to a 10Mbit hub and can ping and connect to each other.
The ME machines can browse shares on the XP machine. However, when I
browse to ME shares from the XP machine it keeps repeatedly asking for
the password as if I'm putting in the wrong one. I'm not. I can go
straight to machine 1 and browse and authenticate to the ME share on
machine 2 using exactly the same password. I can also do the same
vice-versa (i.e., from 2 to 1).
Can you help ? I think this is a problem with XP using a different
authentication protocol or technique than ME.
