Hello everyone cannot understand why for the life of me.
I can surf the net but cannot go to symantec.com,
mcafee.com or grisoft.com or run a live update. Might have
something to do with a virus but ran some free online
viruses, disabled the system restore cause sasser and
blaster were present but are now gone, but still cannot
access those sites??????????????????????
Thanks if you can help

Marc.

Hi Marc,
Since all of the sites are anti-virus sites there
seams to be some effects left from the viruses. Have you
used a reoval tool such as Microsoft's from Windows
Update? or see KB Article:KB833330
at 'www.microsoft.com/support'
Let me know if I can assist you further, Luke.

Hi Marc,
Thanks for the update. I am currently researching
the topic. I will update you shortly, Luke.

Hi Marc,
Can you please check for the following entry in
your registry:
"avserve2.exe"="%Windir%\avserve2.exe"
To do this please open the run box from the start menu
and type 'regedit'. Once the registry editor is open
please browse to the following location and check for the
value above:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\Run
Thanks, Luke.

Hi! Luke I am not in front of that computer at the moment
but will check the file later on and let you know. If the
file is present should I remove it or rename it?
Thanks
Marc.

Hi Marc,
If you do find the value please leave it but I
don't expect you to have it. I'm checking known
references for viruses to make sure that you have not got
a un-dectable version of a virus. I'm still checking with
Microsoft about the possible reasons other than a virus
for you not being able to view these websites. Let me
know what you find, Luke.

Hi Marc,
Could you check your hosts file for me. This is a file in
Windows that can be altered to help resolve some URLs.
1. Go to your windows directory > system32 > drivers >
etc > hosts.
2. Open this file, are there any values below the block
on text. If so please send the contents of the file to
me.
Thanks, Luke.

Hello Luke sorry it took so long but got to work sometimes.
Did not find avserve2.exe"="%Windir%\avserve2.exe
Which email address should I send you the Hosts files?
Marc

Hey Luke I got it I took upon myself to look at the HOSTS
files and deleted all extra lines and now I am able to
connect to those sites. Thanks a lot again for your input.
Marc.
