Accessing DAPs online

I have just finished creating a DAP, which I am attempting to put online. I
am working with the IT department at my school, where they will be hosting
the database on their server. They gave me an IP address, and everytime I
open it, a prompt comes up that tells me to add the IP to my list of "secure
websites". Is there anyway to avoid this?? Thanks!

I think that people will not want to fill out the survery if they have to go
through adding it to their list of secure websites first!!

Hi,

All clients accessing DAPs have these requirements:
a.. Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later
b.. Microsoft Office Web Components (for pages created with Access 2000)
c.. Microsoft Office XP Web Components (for pages created with Access
2002)
Unless you know for sure all your users have IE, and Office installed, DAPs
are not very usefull.

I don't know about the secure list thing. My guess is that even after you
do that the page still won't work. Daps are just plain useless. Sorry for
being negative.

Have you seen the surveys available in sharepoint services? They come with
their own set of obstacle for allowing anonymous access, but it's a nice way
to do online surveys.

HTH,
Josh

thanks for the reply, and for being honest by telling me that the DAPs are
useless. at least I can try and create something else. What is this
"sharepoint services" thing you are talking about??? It sounds like it will
definitely help. Also, what do you think about using an ASP.net? although i
have no idea where to begin with that.....
thanks for the help!

Forget about DAP: even if you pull out all the strings correctly, many of
your clients won't have access to the backend SQL-Server because of an
intervening blocking firewall that will block the port 1433.

One of the easiest way of doing your stuff would be ASP.NET. It may takes a
few days for getting started but at least, after that, you won't find
obstacle after obstacle like it is with DAP.

There is a newsgroup about DAP: microsoft.public.access.dataaccess.pages.
On Google:

http://groups.google.ca/group/microsoft.public.access.dataaccess.pages

I don't know about the Sharepoint Services; so I cannot give you a
comparaison with ASP.NET.
