I am unable to establish a DUN connection with my Classic
Compuserve ISP on my Win XP machine. I connect but get a

There used to be a nice tutorial type article on this
site, but I can no longer find it, to give you that
reference. So I'll attempt to give you directions.

I'll try to be explicit, since I do not know your level
of expertise. If I'm too simplistic, please indulge me.

1. From the Win XP Start menu, select Control Panel.
2. On the Control Panel, select Network Connections.
3. On the Network Connections window, pull down the File
menu and select New Connection
4. When the "New Connections Wizard" comes up:
a. Select "Next" on the Welcome to ... screen
b. Select "Connect to the Internet" for Connection Type
c. Select "Set up my connection manually"
d. Select Connect using a dial-up modem
e. Enter any description you wish for ISP name, e.g.
Compuserve
f. Enter your the phone number your modem should dial
for your local Compuserve connection.
g. Enter your User name (which for us old Compuserve
members is a number, e.g. 53245,1234), then also enter
your password (twice) and click Next

OK, we are not done, but there should now be a new entry
showing in the Dial-up section of the Network Connection
window, with the name you provided in step 4.e. above.

RIGHT click the new entry and select Properties from the
drop-down menu.

When the Properties window appears, select the Security
tab.

At the bottom of the Securities tab display, select the
check box "Run script", then click Browse.

From the browse list, select the login script named
cis.scp and then click Open.

Now, click the big OK button, because you should be done.

I've been using Windows XP with Compuserve since 2001
with no problems. If you come from the Win95 or Win98
world, it's a bit different seeing the logon script run
as part of the connection process.

Good luck to you.

I've tried all the procedures you've listed below, and I still cannot
connect to Compuserve. Any other ideas?
