accessing autosaves after closing program?

Recently I’ve managed to close a few documents (excel and word) without
saving them. Not very clever I know. I know as you are working in these
programs you can autosave, which saves the document in a temporary file. But
when you close a document the temporary file gets deleted / is not obviously
accessible.
1. is it possible to access these so I could open the last autosave? Or
2. is it possible to change some setting / autosave location so these
autosaved files are available after I close the program?

Actually, autosave just overwrites the file in place but it has to be saved at
least once.

There is a feature added in xl2002 called autorecovery that saves every x
minutes, but when you leave excel nicely (no crashes), that file gets deleted.

For the next time, get a copy of Jan Karel Pieterse's addin called AutoSafe
(note spelling).

It saves to a user selectable folder. And when it's done, it either deletes
these backups (or puts them in the recycle bin). And you can always restore the
backups from the
recycle bin.

(look for AutoSafe.zip, not autosafeVBE.zip, for your purposes.)

Excel's AUTOSAVE has "save the save" feature.

AutoSafe.xla Add-in by Jan Karel Pieterse has an option that transfers all
incremented saves that it creates to the Recycle Bin for recovery at your
leisure.

Similar to AUTOSAVE but with the added option to find the incremented backups.

Thanks Dave.

Dragged out an old posting from the archives and flung it into the fray.
