Access97/SR2/Vista

Hi,
I tried to reinstall Office97 Professional/Access97 on a replacement laptop
that was returned by Dell with Vista instead of Windows XP. The Office 97
Professional installation seemed to complete successfully. I was able to
open Word97 and Access97 without any problem. When I tried to install SR2,
however, a message stated that the installation was unable to complete
successfully. A log file was supposedly created during the SR2 installation,
but the person with the laptop won't be back for a day or two, and I'm not
sure whether I'll know what to do with the file, anyway.

Just wondering if anyone else has tried to install Access97/SR2 on a Vista
computer?

Thank you.

Not unusual. The SR2 install was always fragile, and combine
that with Vista....

Have a search on google groups for what other people have
done. I think you will probably wind up extracting all the
files first, so that you can do the problematic file replacements
by hand, or modify the setup script to exclude them.

The log file will tell you what failed. Probably trying to
delete/open/replace some file.

If you are going to do this often, you probably want to patch
the O97 install, so that you don't have to do SR2b.

We re-install WinXP. We aren't ready for Vista, and MS
allows XP on a Vista licence.
