Hello. We are experiencing an Access issue with registry permissions.
Wondering if anyone has had this issues and resolved them. The details are
below. (Apparently, if the primary user uses access it is OK cause it was
installed under their profile. If another user signs onto the machine, they
have an issue, even though they are a local admin.) Thanks.

Mike

Has any resolution ever been found for the 'Error accessing system registry'
message that I get in Access (when trying to talk to the registry) on some
of the PCs here?

I know you have determined that this occurs for the second and any
consecutive user/owner of each machine running Windows XP but I think we
need a way to resolve the problem.

The effect this registry problem has on Access programs during runtime is
that some of the features cannot be used.

RESPONSE:
I've talked to Microsoft often about this issue over the past year and a
half and they haven't been able to help me. I've spent many many hours on
it and I see no resolution in the near future. Believe me, a resolution
would make my job much easier as well.

I always get it working by either logging in as the first user or the
computer administrator account and give the administrator group, and the
current user, full access to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT key and all it's
subkeys. Sometimes doing that, though, causes other problems and I have to
do it again. It's a real pain.

Mike,

What is the specific task that you performed when getting the "Error
accessing system registry" error message?

Are you testing/running VBA code or a specific Microsoft Access project of
yours? Troubleshoot Microsoft Access is application troubleshooting ONLY,
and does not apply for project troubleshooting (you may be getting the error
message from code developed into a specific Microsoft Access).

Post back to let know.

Thanks Randy! Humm. You are probably right. We have an inhouse
development staff and one of their programs is causing this issue for a few
users in Access 97. I actually did not write up the problem or response
(someone else in IT did). As the profile under which Access 97 was
installed always works, it would seem as though permissions to keys are not
appropriately placed for subsequent users on the same pc (who of course have
a different profile). Unfortunately, at this point, this is all the
information that I have.
