Access very much denied!

Ok, I just installed the 5728 build and I'm beset with one overiding issue;
that of restoring my XP file and settings.

I started out by running the file and settings transfer wizard but the
corresponding 'easy transfer wizard' in vista wouldn't restore it properly -
it would only restore files from a .dat file but not settings. Seemed to
want a .mig.

Then I try running the easy transfer wizard from the vista disk, and I get
an error when it scans my XP install.

So losing hope, I try to do it manually, but almost all of the folders I'm
trying to restore files into (Documents and settings, local settings etc)
are giving me an access denied error (And have a small arrow on their left
hand side) - and I've tried to alter permissions to no avail, even though
I'm supposed to be an administrator.

Anyone got any ideas or should I become a monk?

Hi Danny,

Click start, type msconfig and hit <enter>. On the tools tab, click 'disable
uac' and then launch. Reboot when complete and retry doing it manually.

Hello,

Those folders with the ghosted icon and small arrow means that those folders
have been moved/renamed in Windows Vista. They are not really folders, but
junctions, and are there to point legacy applications to the new folder. You
will need to find out the new location; Windows won't let you access these
junctions.

For example, Documents and Settings is now Users.

If you're in Vista, you can get Windows to tell you where those are pointing
to from a command prompt via the dir /a command ... it will show you the
location they have been moved to in brackets.
