Access to password protected files

I had a recent crash that required repair of the
registry. Now i don't have access to the files that were
in the 'my documents' file. I get one form or another of
the words 'access denied' when i try to access them from
within windows as an administrator, or in safe mode. I
know the password - heck it's my computer - but I can't
figure out how to use it. Anybody ever get around this
problem before?
